Town Adventures

Let me translate the Town Adventures marketing blurb:

Welcome to the cozy world of Town Adventures! Immerse yourself in a calming and enchanting journey through a picturesque small towns nestled at the a forest or desert. In this delightful walking and exploration game, your objective is simple yet captivating: embark on a quest to find scattered objects both within the heart of the town and along the fringes. Relax, unwind, and lose yourself in the beauty of your surroundings as you enjoy a leisurely stroll through a charming world.

Translation: Wander around aimlessly trying to find randomly placed objects, then walk out the way you came in. Not as charming as it sounded, does it? Town Adventures boils down to looking in every nook and cranny to find objects scattered about with no rhyme or reason.

Why is the Mushroom tucked away on a table behind a tower? Dunno!

The towns in Town Adventures are small and well put together, I guess. The problem is, you can’t go inside in any of the buildings, and there is absolutely no environmental storytelling whatsoever, or NPCs for that matter. Why is the spell book behind a bunch of bushes on a barrel? I don’t know. Mushrooms on tables. Potions on random carts outside the town walls. Nothing makes any sense. The starting Cozy Town is bad enough, the Cozy Desert Arab town was even worse. I picked up the bread and couldn’t even tell you where i picked it up, same for the coal pile. Couldn’t find anything else and gave up. Knowing this game, the objects are probably hidden in far flung corners on opposite ends of the town.

The quiver was on the box in the center. Why? Dunno!

Town Adventures isn’t necessarily a long game at all. If you know where everything is, three minutes per town. If you don’t, an hour per town as you wander around in circles. This is neither fun, nor relaxing. It’s a hair-pulling exercise in tedium. This game will get a Not Recommended with a four back-end score. I can’t see it getting anything else because there’s no reward for finding all the items. Just “Chapter Complete” and you move on to the next town. Utterly pointless and banal.

Overall: If wandering around in circles trying to find randomly strewn items sounds fun, Town Adventures is for you!

Verdict: Not Recommended
