My fellow indie reviewer MYT of the Elite Institute gave Chop Goblins at 10 out of 10. Is this a 10/10 game from my perspective? No, its a 9/10! I’ll explain why we differ at the end. Chop Goblins is an expertly crafted bite sized FPS where you fight goblins who thrive on chaos. You start out at the museum, where you accidentally unleash them looking for treasure. Then you fight across the city. Then in 1800s Transylvania, ancient Greece, and finally the future. Each of the five levels is well designed with tons of secrets and things to find. The highlight for me was the Dracula boss battle in Transylvania, which makes no sense, but that’s kind of the point of it all.

There are only five weapons at your disposal in Chop Goblins. You have the knife, the flintlock pistol, shotgun, a machine gun, and magical staff that can clear a bunch of goblins at once. As for the enemies, you have standard goblins, knife throwing goblins, vomiting goblins, strange dogs and colossal goblins in Greece, and cyborg goblins in the future. Not a ton of variety all told, but in a short game like this(under an hour), it doesn’t really need it.

Chop Goblins is excellent, and is excellent because it is so short. The doesn’t have time to wear out its welcome. I’d imagine in a longer game the goblin’s one liners would get grating. While I’d love to give it a 10/10, what brings it up also lets it down in a way. You blink, and Chop Goblins is over and you don’t want to leave. Still it’s getting a Must Play and a nine back-end score. You really cannot ask for much else from me.
Overall: Chop Goblins is a bite-sized FPS that is brimming with personality and charm!
Verdict: Must Play
