Tiny Watermelon Match

Max Interactive Studio is known for taking pre-made games/tech demos and flipping them. Big Watermelon Match is one such game. After posting the review, they sent me an email stating that they were going to give Big Watermelon Match “its own unique identity.” Tiny Watermelon Match is that game, as confirmed by Max Interactive Studio themselves. It flips Suika Game and making it so you’re shrinking the fruits. Essentially, instead two oranges making an apple piece, two oranges make the smaller banana piece. Easier? No. You’re starting with huge fruits and if you’re not careful, you can die much quicker here than normally.

See what I mean?

There are four modes in Tiny Watermelon Match. Classic, Classic Time Attack, Arcade, and Arcade Time Attack. Classic is self-explanatory. In arcade mode, you can swap the piece with the next one, which is helpful. Plus, you get bonus items that destroy pieces. In the time attack modes, you have five minutes to get a high score. All four have leaderboards. They’re complete and functional. As far as game play is concerned, The physics is still slightly wonky(like Big Watermelon Match), but the game is still good.

I have to commend Max Interactive Studio is attempting something different, and not just asset flipping. For the most part, they succeed in Tiny Watermelon Match. The UI could use some further refining(it can get confusing), plus the physics mentioned earlier. And, while Reverse Suika is a thing, its only on Newsgrounds and not much else. This marks the first full Reverse Suika game that I know of. I’ll give this a seven back-end score with a Recommended Verdict. Last week I reviewed Love Island, where Big Way delivered a good game. This week, I reviewed a game where another bad developer delivered a good game. Will there be a third? we’ll see… Looking at you, Midnight Works and Companies!

Overall: Tiny Watermelon Match is Max Interactive Studio proving they can be more than asset flippers and deliver something good.

Verdict: Recommended
