I haven’t reviewed in the past week due to the awesome Unicorn Overlord. Now that its grip is slipping I can get back to reviewing Switch games. Tiny Battles is apt for the first one back because it is “tactical action auto-battler.” So you lay out a bunch of units of various types depending on the gold you have at that second. Then every 30 seconds they go out onto the map and get slaughtered. You lay out even more units and more units, until you hopefully get to the other side of the map. There is some strategy in which units you send in what positions. However, Tiny Battles is a lot like ant battles, they who bring heavier numbers wins. There’s not much strategy beyond that unfortunately. Wave after wave after waves for minutes on end.

Tiny Battles has several different unlockable races, including orcs, elves and cultists, so there is some replayability. But I’m left feeling with a burning nagging question? Why? Why should I play this when I can play Unicorn Overlord and micro-manage to the finest detail and win by the skin of my teeth. I get more of a sense of accomplishment there than I did here. This is honestly a cure for insomnia. It would be fine for short bouts, but I gave up on my play at the twenty-five minute mark of a battle. Are they serious? Yes they are. Auto-battlers work better on mobile than they do consoles and handhelds. They function as time-wasters. Here, Tiny Battles just doesn’t bring enough to make it worth it, This gets a Not Recommended with a five back-end score.
Overall: Tiny Battles is an auto-battler that would have been better off on mobile, but just doesn’t bring enough to make it worth it here.
Verdict: Not Recommended
