Red Pistol was a game developed by a duo from Brazil and published by Indie.io. I thought it looked cool, downloaded it to my Steam Deck and it crashed. I emailed the devs about it, and they released another patch, which made the deck not find the executable file. I sent the developers the screenshot and they figured out what was wrong. Now it works on the Steam Deck. It is good, but I don’t feel its a Must Play. It’s a complete, well made game, but a little rough around the edges I think. Red Pistol is a western twin stick shooter where you fight zombies and bullet-hell bosses. There are four biomes, including a town and a vampire castle. You go through procedural-generated levels to find the boss and beat them. Easier said than done.

In Red Pistol, every enemy will drop a skill crystal. Gain enough, and you’ll level up. Then you’ll have a choice of one of four skills to enhance. These range from extra bullets to causing enemies to bleed. There is also a bounty system, which goes up the better you do. The better you do, the harder the enemies. Also you’ll run into a bounty-hunter mini-boss. Unfortunately, while there is a tutorial, it isn’t explained at all. Like your bounty affects what weapons you can use.

Red Pistol has a good catchy soundtrack, and good pixelated graphics. Unfortunately, on Steam Deck, the lowest resolution didn’t fit on the screen, and higher resolutions made text impossibly small to read. Also the health bar should be in the HUD, not a tiny bar above your character. Still, I liked Red Pistol, I’ll give it a recommended with an eight score. It’s solid and fun, but I didn’t feel it was an absolutely amazing Must Play. Still, this is an amazing start, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for the studio.
Overall: Red Pistol is a fun twin stick shooters combining rogue-like and bullet-hell to great effect. Unfortunately, its rough around the edges.
