A few days ago, when searching for better Switch versions of Minesweeper when reviewing this game, I came across a little game called Dungeon Minesweeper. I downloaded said game. I played said game. I enjoyed it a lot. So here I am with a review of it. I will give a Recommended with an eight score. Must Play? I thought about it, but it doesn’t have enough aura to justify that coveted score. Let’s get into it.

What is Dungeon Minesweeper?
You play a dwarf in a dungeon. Your goal is to find four relics to activate a portal(in story mode anyway). You do this by digging beyond the walls, where there are mines. Numbered squares will pop up showing how many mines are adjacent, you deduce the placement of the mines. Yes, Dungeon Minesweeper is Minesweeper, but I think you figured that out from the name. In addition to mines, there is iron, gold and rubies(which activate the big face ruby thing in the screenshot above). There are enemies walking around, which you can hack at, or throw a fireball at using mana. There is this wizard merchant guy who sells health upgrades(start with five lives) and health and mana restoration. Finally, you can rescue ppls and open chests for gold.

Dungeon Minesweeper has perma-death, but you can save on normal difficulty in the story mode. Hardcore difficulty, once you die, its over. There is also freeplay, where you just play minesweeper without the enemies or the story elements, and can save. The dungeons are huge, with thousands of squares. Clearing these will take hours, regardless of which mode you play.

Conclusion:
As I said at the start, Dungeon Minesweeper will get a Recommended verdict with an eight score. I’ve played a lot of different Minesweeper and this attempts to do something different and I appreciate that. But at its core, this is Minesweeper and if you’ve played minesweeper, you know what you’re getting. Still, if you must have a Minesweeper, get Dungeon Minesweeper. You can’t go wrong with this version.
Overall: Dungeon Minesweeper is Minesweeper, but a great one that turns it into a rogue-like that will keep you busy for hours.
