Nanoapostle

Nanoapostle sat in my backlog for over a month because, quite simply, I’m terrible at it. That does not mean this is a terrible game. Quite the opposite, I can see it is a very good game. It is just hard and beyond my capabilities. It is a boss-rush game, where you fight boss after boss, after boss. There are other levels, such as platforming and and battling waves of enemies. But the main thrust of the game is boss battling.

There’s a fairly deep story here.

In Nanoapostle, you are Anita, birthed by experiments in a research facility, you are paired with entity called Apostle. And you must fight bioweapon and after bioweapon to escape. You have all the necessary tools to attack, dodge, parry and special attack. You must learn each boss’s patterns and attack or defend as necessary. In some ways, the game comes off as a version of Punch-Out. You can upgrade yourself with points earned by meeting certain criteria in levels, or beating those other levels I talked about. Those other levels are really training for the boss battles, but are fun in their own right.

And I suck at Nanoapostle. Really really, badly. I get my ass whooped over and over again. But its not the game, it is me. I’m bad at the game. The game is good. And if you are good, there’s lots here to chew on. I’m just not one of those game players. So if this sounds fun to you, give it a whirl. Nanoapostle gets a Recommended with an 8 back-end score.

Overall: Nanoapostle is a hard boss-rush game that I am terrible at, but I recognize it is me, not the game.

Verdict: Recommended
