When was the the last time you saw Q*bert clone like Hoppy Hop? If you don’t know what Q*bert is, you’re probably well under forty, as Q*bert was a phenomenon in the early 1980s, but aside from a few re-releases, isn’t exactly as remembered today in my opinion. So, this is Q*bert:

You are little thing jumping around vaguely 3d play field trying to hit every square while avoiding enemies and traps. According to More Games Like, there are sixty-two games like Q*Bert.. But they include Hitman Go, so I’m not going to take them seriously. Anyways, this is Hoppy Hop:

In Hoppy Hop, you are a bunny rabbit hopping around squares, trying to hit every one, while avoiding traps and enemies. And it is fun! The controls take some getting used to, but once you do, you’ll be hopping with ease. There are three initial areas, a field, a mine and an alien dimension. They introduce the various traps, enemies and mechanics. Future levels then mash the areas up. There are several sweets to collect in each area of three stages. Collect them all, and you have a bonus stage.

I enjoyed Hoppy Hop. I think its a great Q*bert clone, or which there are not enough today. Will it get a Must Play? Sure, why not. I can’t think of anything particularly wrong with it. Besides, there’s not enough Q*bert around… Ok you can play for free online. Outside of that, if you want a more graphically pleasing version of Q*bert you can’t go wrong here.

Overall: Hoppy Hoppy is a great Q*bert clone that I recommended because if you’re under 40, you’ve probably never heard of Q*bert.

Verdict: Must Play
