It is May 23, 1993. The Lady of the Past, leader of the pyramid cult “Present”, has just washed her underwear and, in the process, erased the brains of all humanity. Only you, a robot(the titular Future Knight) built over 30 years from the remains of a 90s soap opera actor, can stop her. But you are not alone. You have Two More, a benign tumor, inexplicably powerful and with a life of its own that lives inside you.
I have quoted the eShop page for Future Knight to explain the bizarre plot to this inventive run and gun game. It honestly couldn’t tell you what it was, even after watching the in-game slides that explain it. All you really need to know is you go through 8 areas of three levels each, each with 3 pickups that increase your firepower(before you must reload). You’ll switch between the android and a living tumor thing. You’ll need to because being in the tumor for a few seconds will heal the android, which is vital for survival. And yes, things get real, real fast.

The Weirdness of Future Knight
Future Knight’s hook is twofold. First, it looks like one of those old LCD games and pulls it off near perfectly which keeping a modern control scheme and game play. Second, Future knight is weird, but you could tell that from the plot. You’ll be fighting Sushi Chefs and running piles of poo. This is not an anime aesthetic. It kinda reminds me of Cho Aniki in the weird Japanese aesthetic.

But despite the weirdness, there is an actual game in Future Knight, and quite a good one. It gets hard quickly, but hard in a good way. The game never comes across as unfair. Just you need to get good-style of game. I liked it a lot. Does it get a Must Play? sure, why not. The weirdness may be a turn off for some, but this is a quality, well made game. Future Knight gets a Must Play with a 9 score.
Overall: Future Knight wears its Japanese-style strangeness in full view, but don’t let it fool you, there’s a great game here.
Verdict: Must Play
