Gunman Clive HD Collection is a collection of two games, Gunman Clive, and Gunman Clive 2. Both are side-scrolling action platformers where you jump and shoot your gun… and that’s it. But still the games are both very well made… and kinda of insane. In GC 1, you fight a giant walking locomotive. GC 2 starts with a giant steampunk mech firing missiles at you and later fight a t-rex. In addition to regular gunslingers, you fight ducks, and pelicans. In both games, there’s no randomization, every enemy is in same place every run and every platform moves exactly as it should. This makes traversing levels a matter of memorization, learn the levels and get through.

In Gunman Clive, Mayors Johnson’s daughter gets kidnapped and off you go to save her. It doesn’t really matter as you can play as her, and Chieftain Bill, a Native American. Anyway, off you go on a wacky and wild adventure across the old west, where it keeps its theming, and yellow color scheme. Gunman Clive 2 has you going around the world, and through time, and dispenses with any semblance of a story. It also has a much improved color scheme, with the flames in the opening level being a standout. Its also a little bit more difficult.

The sequel is even crazier!

Yesterday, I reviewed a shitty western game called Guns and Spurs 2. It was terrible. Today, I have the pleasure of reviewing the Gunman Clive HD Collection, a duo of excellent action platformers. I think I reviewed them in the right order, starting bad and ending great. Despite starting out as 3DS games, the GC games both hold up very well and are worth a play through. There is nothing much more I can say about them, other than again, to go play them, as they are both great games.

Overall: The Gunman Clive HD Collection contains two great action platformers that are definitely worth a play.

Verdict: Must Play
