Ahh, the zombie twin stick shooter. It was the bane of my existence during my Xbox Indie review days. There were like several hundred of them of them and they all blended together. I eventually refused to review them. So I’m not the biggest fan. Well, Splatter Zombiecaplyse Now is a zombie twin stick shooter, and its a very good one actually.

Thanks for the obvious!

You are a loner named Max, who one evening gets a knock on the door. The cops want you to evacuate as zombies are coming. You pick up a gun and go on a one man crusade. You drift from place to place because the plot needs you to, not because you particularly need to go there, but its not really important beyond setting the stage for zombie killing action. Still, Max is voice acted well and the cut scenes between levels are well done.

Splatter Zombiecalypse Now
There is a car shooting level, more than one actually.

You go from stage to stage, shooting zombies, jumping zombies, zombie bugs and other monstrosities, collecting money in order to upgrade your weapons, finding secrets, collecting armor pieces, and pieces of a golden super gun. Occasionally you’ll fight a boss with a very nice rocking soundtrack.

Keep throwing those flares!

Controls are pretty standard, L to move, R to aim, ZR to shoot. ZL is to throw flares, which zombies hate, and are critical for beating bosses. Everything works well and the game is genuinely fun to play!

Let the bodies hit the floor!

My only real complaint about Splatter Zombiecaplyse Now is graphics. Its dark, the zombies look like the ghouls from the original Gauntlet and its sometimes hard to tell what stuff is. It’s disappointing as the game otherwise is so good.

On to top of the story mode, which will last a few hours, you have various arcade modes, plus multiplayer. Therefore, you have a complete and fun zombie twin stick shooter for seven dollars. Can’t go wrong with Splatter Zombiecalypse Now. If it weren’t for the crummy graphics I’d give it a Must Play, but I still whole heartily recommend a purchase anyway!

Overall: Splatter Zombiecalypse Now is a great zombie twin stick shooter!

Verdict: Recommended
