Alien Hominid, released in 2004 for the GameCube and PS2, was a pretty big deal at the time as it was one of the first flash games to become a console game. I had it, it was fantastic. It challenging, funny and fun. It also had PDA mode and a really funny mini game where you fly a Russian nuke to bomb the US. Now nineteen years later, it gets released with Alien Hominid Invasion, which i have not played yet. I can safely say this is the same game released in 2004, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And this is certainly not broken.

In Alien Hominid HD, you play a little alien who must shoot, dodge and dig his way through sixteen levels. First in a city against the FBI, then against the Soviets, and finally the US Military at Area 51. Generally, you’ll fighting standard enemies, then a mini-boss and a giant stage boss. You get five continues, but if you die, you can just restart on the stage you died on, which gives people like me a leg up and a chance to beat it. I beat the game back in 2004 and remember it vividly and nothing much has changed. As I said, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. At the time, Alien Hominid received generally favorable reviews with an eighty-four on metacritic. It was worth that score, as it was a great game and still is.

Alien Hominid HD will get a Must Play verdict. It is simply that damn good. Some games don’t really age all that much, as you can have as much fun with them now as you did them. This is one of those games. If you’re not middle aged like me, and played it nineteen years, go play it now. And even if you did, still play it now. This is a classic game I’ve wanted to replay for a long time, and now it is here, and it was worth the wait. Besides, twelve dollars is a steal compared to the forty I paid for at launch.
Overall: Alien Hominid HD is the return of a classic that has not changed in nineteen years. But then, it didn’t need to.
