Shivering Stone

Asset Flipping isn’t something I’ve talked extensively about. It is when a game uses paid asset packs or even pre-made games and sells them. I’ve reviewed asset flips straight before, like the case of Bubble Shoot Farm or Internet Cafe Mini Games. Shivering Stone is an asset flip, as its visual assets are straight out of RPG Maker, a program that you can make JRPGS with. I’ve played around extensively with RPGMaker in years past, and recognize the standard snow assets from a mile away. Heck, the game was probably made in RPGMaker and EastAsiaSoft, for whatever reason, decided to publish it. Heck I could have made Shivering Stone if I wanted too.

Shivering Stones Block Puzzle

Shivering Stone is a glorified sliding block puzzle game. I have reviewed a few of these before, Cubicban and Super Glow Puzzle come to mind. The only difference is you control a little guy and walk around pushing blocks. Push the blocks over the slots and the gates open and you walk into the next puzzle. There are fifty puzzle in all. And that’s about it. No story, nothing. Even the E-Shop Description doesn’t help much:

Shivering Stone is an environmental sliding puzzle where you take the role of a young man as he journeys across snowfields and frozen forests.

What’s worse, some of the puzzles in Shivering Stone are badly designed, where blocks don’t slide where they should for no particular reason. Other puzzles are so lazy there are blocks in the puzzle you don’t even need to touch to solve the puzzle. What was the point of them even being there? As far as sliding block puzzles go, these are not the best I’ve seen. Kind of amateurish in a way.

So what are we left with in Shivering Stone? A lazy game made in RPG Maker that I could have made in my sleep and sold for five dollars on the Nintendo E-Shop, published by EastAsiaSoft. Honestly, there are better games like this out there. I’m going to give this a Not Recommended with a five-back end score. It’s just not worth anyone’s time, especially when this could have, and probably should have, been a project that never saw the light of day.

Overall: Shivering Stone is a sliding block puzzle game that was made in RPG Maker, take that as you will.

Verdict: Not Recommended
