Desvelado

The developer of Desvelado came to me and said he saw that I liked Celeste, I’d like his game. Correct, I do like Desvelado. However, it plays out like a puzzle platformer (PictoPull comes to mind for some reason) more than say Crystal Chip Collector or N++. Don’t get me wrong, there are tough platforming sections, but you’ll be relying on brain power as much as raw platforming ability. Its often a question of how to do as it much as it is just doing it. And I like that about the game.

There are bonus levels in the game highlighted by glowing doors like above.

You play a vampire whose castle has been taken over by ghosts. And you must explore it to get it back, or something? There’s really not much of a plot in Desvelado, but there doesn’t need to be. Each level is divided into a few dozen platforming screens usually based around a particular theme, like switches that change the room or disappearing floors. Get to the end of the level and you’ll find a map that’ll open up new levels to explore. In each screen you must put out all the torches. There are standard yellow torches. Then there are Red torches that allow one air dash, and are what most of the puzzles revolve around. The ghosts that fly around will replenish the torch, another key puzzle feature of Desvelado.

Desvelado is a solid puzzle/precision platformer. Do I like it enough to give it a Must Play verdict? Strangely, its relaxed difficulty lessens the game for me. Its not frustrating, but not “One more time” addicting. With that said, there’s nothing here that prevents me from not giving it a Recommended verdict with an eight back-end score. Like I said, the game is solid and definitely worth a play for all platformer fans.

Overall: Desvelado is a puzzle plaformer with a vampire that’s often about how to do it as much as just doing it. I enjoyed it.

Verdict: Recommended
